What is Bentonite?

Bentonite is a clay dominated by montmorillonite.

Montmorillonite is a water-bearing aluminosilicate mineral with negative charge between the mineral layers. It can absorb Ca2 , Mg2 , K*, Na* and other cations, and has the property of cation exchange.

After absorbing water, bentonite can expand in the direction of C axis between the montmorillonite layers and form a gel with good performance when dispersed in water.

Natural bentonite as much as the calcium base bentonite, not very ideal, its physical and chemical properties such as processed into its purification of sodium base bentonite, bentonite, granular bentonite, organic bentonite, activated clay particles (clay), such as inorganic gel of bentonite processing products, can be widely used in petrochemical, oil, medicine, construction, chemical, textile, coating, in various fields such as metallurgy, environmental protection.

Usage of Bentonite

1.   Foundry industry.  200 bentonite is used as a binder for molding sand, a binder for hydrated molding sand and a surface stabilizer

   
   

2.    Metallurgy.   325 bentonite can be used as pellet binder for iron concentrate

   
   

3.   Drilling mud. 325 bentonite can be used to prepare drilling mud suspension and detaching agent with high rheological and thixotropic properties
